ABOUT
EL CAMINO REAL
(THE ROYAL ROAD)

El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro (The Royal Road to the Interior) was for three hundred years the main route for exploration and trade from present day Mexico City to Sante Fe, New Mexico. After 300 years of linking New Mexico to the Hispanic world to the south, the Camino Real was abandoned to the desert with the coming of the railroad in the 1800’s and disappeared from both maps and memory.
